Cuby Catamaran is a single player strategy game created by myself and five others in a rapid prototyping class over the span of three weeks. With this project, we wanted to take the experience gained from quick prototyping our previous game “Come Back To It” and make a game that required more behind-the-scenes work. Pseudo-random tile generation, menus and popups, and mechanic balancing were all big parts of this project.
Continuing as Lead programmer with Cuby Catamaran, communication and delegation were much more important as the three-week start-to-finish timeline carried more pressure with the team having lost one member and facing a more challenging iteration loop. In order to complete the game as well as we were able to, good back-and-forth communication was necessary with the design team, as well as handing off tasks like water effects and popup debugging to other members.
